Create
About Create
Create is the mod that changed how players think about automation in Minecraft. Instead of complicated redstone circuits, it gives you physical machines: mechanical belts, cogwheels, pistons, mixers, crushing wheels and dozens of other devices that you link together into working systems.
The most beautiful thing about Create is its aesthetic. Every block looks like part of a Victorian factory. Cogwheels turn, belts carry items, and the whole system has a physical presence in the world. These aren't abstract blocks with a GUI: they're machines you can watch in action.
Create's power system is based on Stress Units (SU). Every power source (a water wheel, a windmill, a creative motor) generates a set amount of SU, and every machine consumes its share. You have to balance production and consumption, which adds a layer of planning that makes building factories incredibly satisfying.
Create has a built-in logistics system: mechanical belts carry items and mobs, while funnels sort items and control the flow. You can build an entire production line, from raw materials to finished products, without a single hopper or comparator.
The mod also adds vehicles. You can build trains that run on tracks, flying machines and even whole moving structures. The contraption system lets you join blocks into a single moving whole, and yes, you can build a flying castle.
Create has excellent documentation in the form of Ponder, an interactive tutorial system built into the game that shows you animated instructions for its blocks. It's one of the best UX solutions in the history of modding.
When it comes to compatibility, Create runs on Forge and NeoForge. A Fabric port (Create Fabric) exists, but a separate team develops it and it can fall a few versions behind. If you want the full Create experience, Forge/NeoForge is the safer choice.

How to install Create
Create requires Forge, NeoForge or Fabric. On Forge/NeoForge you also need Flywheel (a rendering library). On Fabric you need Create Fabric + Fabric API. Download the mod from Modrinth or CurseForge and put it in the mods/ folder.
- Install the right mod loader: Forge, NeoForge or Fabric. You can download Fabric from fabricmc.net. NeoForge is available from neoforged.net.
- Download Create from its official page. Make sure the version matches your Minecraft version (1.18.2 - 1.21.1).
- Copy the downloaded
.jarfile into the.minecraft/mods/folder. Don't unpack the file. - On Fabric, also add Fabric API: most Fabric mods require it.
- Launch Minecraft with your loader's profile. If the game crashes, check
.minecraft/logs/latest.log: the most common problem is a version mismatch.
Compatibility
Editor's review
Create is the best tech mod ever made for Minecraft. The Ponder system means even beginners can build complex machines, and the steampunk look is simply beautiful. The only downsides are the size of the mod and the occasional performance problems with mega factories. But that's a price you'll happily pay for this level of quality.
