What are skins in Minecraft?

What a skin is

A skin is a texture wrapped around the three-dimensional model of the player character in Minecraft. It's a PNG image file, 64x64 pixels, that defines the look of every part of the body: head, torso, arms and legs. Each pixel in the file maps to a specific spot on the character's 3D model.

Minecraft comes with a few starter skins. The best known are Steve (a male character in a blue shirt) and Alex (a character with red hair). Starting with version 1.19.3, Mojang added seven more default skins: Ari, Efe, Kai, Makena, Noor, Sunny and Zuri. The community has created more than 10 million skins that are free to download online.
