The calculator shows the estimated cost and the best order for combining on the anvil, so you stay under the "Too Expensive!" limit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the "Too Expensive!" limit on the anvil?
In Minecraft Java Edition the anvil refuses to repair or enchant an item once the cost goes above 39 experience levels. Every anvil operation raises the item's "prior work penalty", so each further operation costs more. Our calculator suggests an order that keeps that penalty as low as possible.
Is the XP cost accurate?
The calculator gives an estimate based on the anvil mechanics described on the Minecraft Wiki. The real cost can differ slightly depending on the condition of the item, the repair materials and the order in which you place items on the anvil.
Which enchantments are incompatible with each other?
Some examples of groups that exclude each other: Sharpness / Smite / Bane of Arthropods (only one damage enchantment), Silk Touch / Fortune, Protection / Fire Protection / Blast Protection / Projectile Protection (different types of protection), Depth Strider / Frost Walker, Infinity / Mending.
