Frequently asked questions

How do I add an overlay to a Minecraft skin?

Enter a player name or upload a PNG file (64x64), pick an overlay category and click the overlay you want. You can combine several overlays at once. Download the finished skin with the "Download skin" button.

Does the creator change my original skin?

No. Overlays are added to the "overlay" layer (hat, jacket), so they don't overwrite the original look of your skin. Color filters modify a copy, and the original file stays untouched.

Which overlays are available?

The categories are: Easter (bunny ears, vest, flower wreath, bow), Crowns (gold crown, diamond tiara, iron crown, laurel wreath), Glasses (sunglasses, pixel glasses, goggles, monocle, heart glasses), Masks (Creeper, Enderman, skeleton, Wither), Decorations (headbands, blush, scar, beard) and Filters (pastel colors, zombie, Nether, End, gold, negative).

Can I combine overlays with filters?

Yes. Color filters (for example pastel or zombie) change the whole skin, and then pixel overlays (for example the crown or glasses) are applied on top with their original colors.

Can I use the creator on my phone?

Yes, the creator is fully responsive and works on mobile devices. The 3D preview needs WebGL support, which all modern browsers have.

How do I install the modified skin?

Download the modified skin with the "Download skin" button, then upload it on minecraft.net in the "Skin" tab of your profile (Java Edition) or through the in-game settings (Bedrock Edition).
