Chunkbase: find everything in your Minecraft world
Chunkbase is a free web tool that analyzes any Minecraft world from its seed. Enter the seed, pick the game version, and you instantly see a map of biomes plus the locations of villages, strongholds, temples, slime chunks and dozens of other structures. There is nothing to install: it all runs in your browser.
What Chunkbase is
Chunkbase (chunkbase.com) is a website that uses Minecraft's world generation algorithms to calculate where specific structures, biomes and other features appear in a given seed.
The key principle: Minecraft world generation is deterministic. The same seed always generates the same world. Chunkbase knows those algorithms and simulates generation without running the game, which is why its results are accurate.
The tool is kept up to date with the newest Minecraft versions (including the latest snapshots) and supports both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition.
How to use Chunkbase
- Go to chunkbase.com/apps
- Pick a tool (for example Biome Finder or Village Finder)
- Enter your world's seed in the Seed field (a number or text)
- Choose the Minecraft version from the drop-down list. This matters, because world generation changes between versions
- Choose the edition (Java or Bedrock)
- The map loads automatically. Click and drag to explore it. Colored dots mark the structures it found
Hover over a dot on the map to see its exact coordinates (X, Z). You can enter them in game to teleport there (/tp) or just set off on foot.
The most useful Chunkbase tools
Biome Finder
A biome map of the entire world, from snowy plains to jungles and the Deep Dark. It is especially useful when you are hunting for rare biomes such as Mushroom Fields, Cherry Grove or Pale Garden. Pick a biome from the list and the tool shows its nearest occurrences.
Slime Chunk Finder
Slime chunks are special chunks where slimes spawn underground (below Y=40). The slime chunk layout is determined by the seed and never changes. This tool is essential for building a slime farm; without it, finding a slime chunk means hours of digging.
Village Finder
Locates every village on the map. Useful for finding your first village early in a world (villagers, beds, food) or for planning a village network with librarians to farm enchanted books.
Stronghold Finder
Shows the exact locations of strongholds, which hold the End portals. Chunkbase shows all of them, so you do not have to burn eyes of ender tracking them down.
Other popular tools
- Dungeon Finder: dungeon locations (the ones with monster spawners)
- Nether Fortress Finder: Nether fortresses (blazes, wither skeletons)
- Ocean Monument Finder: ocean monuments (guardians, sponges)
- Ancient City Finder: ancient cities in the Deep Dark
- Trial Chamber Finder: trial chambers (1.21 and later)
- Spawn Point: the player spawn point
How to find your world's seed
To use Chunkbase, you need your world's seed:
- Singleplayer: type the
/seedcommand in chat. The game shows the numeric seed - Multiplayer: the
/seedcommand needs operator permissions. Ask the server admin for the seed. Many servers hide the seed on purpose so players do not use tools like Chunkbase - Bedrock: in the world settings, "Game" section → "Seed". The seed is also visible on the screen where you create a new world
Java vs Bedrock: the differences
Chunkbase supports both editions, but keep one key difference in mind: the same seed gives a different world on Java and on Bedrock. World generation algorithms differ between the editions. Seed "12345" on Java produces a completely different layout of biomes and structures than seed "12345" on Bedrock.
Always make sure you picked the right edition in Chunkbase's settings. Otherwise the results will be wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Is using Chunkbase cheating?
Chunkbase does not modify the game: it is an external website. Servers have no technical way to detect that you are using it. Most players treat it as a planning tool, similar to the wiki. On hardcore survival servers, though, the rules may ban external maps, so always check.
Are Chunkbase results accurate?
Yes, as long as you pick the right Minecraft version and edition. World generation algorithms change between versions: a world created on 1.17 has a different biome layout than the same seed on 1.18 and later.
Does Chunkbase work with mods?
Chunkbase handles vanilla world generation. If you use mods that change generation (for example Terralith or Biomes O'Plenty), Chunkbase results will not be accurate. That applies to biomes and structures added by mods; vanilla features usually stay where they are.
