Hasbro Games has announced a new spin on its hit card game: Monopoly Deal: Minecraft Edition will hit stores on January 15, 2027. The news was first reported by the industry outlet ICv2, citing materials from the game's publisher. Instead of streets and properties from classic Monopoly, players will be collecting sets of biomes known from Minecraft, and will be able to send mobs after their rivals using action cards.
Collecting biomes instead of properties
The mechanics of Monopoly Deal: Minecraft Edition are based on the same principle as the base version of the game, just with a different thematic skin. Instead of colored sets of properties, the cards show characters, items and artwork taken straight from Minecraft, and the goal is to complete three different full sets of biomes before your opponents do. It's a setup that naturally translates the joy of exploring worlds generated from seeds into simple tabletop rivalry.
The second pillar of gameplay are the action cards, which let you make life difficult for rivals by sending mobs known from the game after them. This is the equivalent of the rent and special cards from the original Monopoly Deal, just filtered through the aesthetics of creepers and other creatures from the Minecraft bestiary. The exact list of mobs featured on the cards hasn't been revealed yet.
Monopoly Deal: a faster take on the classic
Monopoly Deal is a spin-off of classic Monopoly that has functioned as a separate product line for years: instead of a board and pieces, there's just a deck of cards, and a full game wraps up in a dozen or so minutes. Hasbro regularly licenses this formula around popular brands. Previous releases include an NFL-themed edition, which ICv2 reported on, and a card game tied to the "KPop Demon Hunters" series, released as part of a deal with Netflix, as described by Variety.
The Minecraft edition follows the same pattern: the game is designed for 2 to 5 players aged 8 and up, and a single round lasts about 15 minutes. It's a format meant as a quick alternative to a full-sized board game, perfect for a family night or a break between sessions in a survival or building world covered in minecraft.pl's guides.
A second licensed edition launching on the same date
Interestingly, Hasbro isn't stopping at just one new release. Alongside the Minecraft version, a Monopoly Deal edition themed around Tim Burton's "Halloween Town" will also hit the market, suggesting that the publisher is treating the start of 2027 as an opportunity to refresh the whole card game line with more big entertainment brands. Minecraft thus joins a growing list of universes that have gotten their own spin on the same mechanics.
For Minecraft fans, this is yet another sign that the brand has long since moved beyond the computer or console screen. The card game doesn't require owning either Minecraft Java Edition or the Bedrock version, so it works regardless of which platform someone plays the original on. That means it could end up in the hands of people who don't even play Minecraft themselves but recognize its look.
Release in January 2027 and open questions
ICv2 gives a specific release date, January 15, 2027, but doesn't specify the price or the number of cards in the box. Standard editions of Monopoly Deal in US stores typically cost a few to a dozen or so dollars, so the licensed Minecraft version should land in a similar price range, though Hasbro hasn't confirmed this officially.
It's also unknown whether, or when, the game will arrive on Polish shelves in a localized language version, or whether it will only reach Poland through parallel imports, as some earlier themed editions of this series have. More details, including a possible price and European distribution specifics, should be announced by Hasbro closer to the release date. Until then, keep an eye on the latest news about Minecraft on minecraft.pl.
