Minecraft in Skyrim, Elden Ring and GTA 5: Which Mods Are

In late September 2026, clips of Minecraft running inside other games took over the internet. Minecraft in Skyrim is real: you can download the SkyCraft mod from the author's GitHub. The much-shared Elden Ring clip, however, shows a private, unreleased build, so any file passed off as that mod is a fake. Minecraft in GTA 5 has been released as source code.

Where this trend came from and what AI has to do with it

Tobyn Jacobs' clip "Minecraft in Elden Ring" hit X and YouTube on September 29, 2026. Between September 30 and October 1, chasmlol released 3 versions of the SkyCraft mod on GitHub, and on October 2 Kotaku wrote about the wave of these mashups. According to Kotaku, most of them existed only as clips on X, while SkyCraft was something you could actually try.

"AI" here means code written with the help of AI assistants, not generated video. SkyCraft's commits carry a co-author note crediting the Claude Opus 5.5 model, and Kotaku and BisectHosting both write about code. Official crossovers have existed for a long time, for example the Skyrim Mash-up pack or Steve and Alex in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2020.

Minecraft in Skyrim: SkyCraft, the Skyrim Minecraft mod

SkyCraft doesn't modify either game. A SKSE plugin and a Fabric mod exchange data through shared memory: Minecraft runs in the background with no window and no sound, while Skyrim draws the picture. You place and break blocks that react to Skyrim's lighting and weather. TNT and Creepers blow craters in the ground, and you fight NPCs with Minecraft weapons. Your Skyrim skills level up along the way.

Up to 100 players can share one Minecraft world thanks to the bundled e4mc mod, but everyone needs their own copy of Skyrim with SkyCraft.

You install SkyCraft through Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex. On first launch, Prism Launcher will ask you to log in with your Microsoft account and will download Minecraft and Java by itself. If you use your own launcher, you need Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer, Fabric API, Java 25 and the skycraft-fabric file (see how to install Fabric).

The author calls the project early and experimental and advises backing up your saves. While Minecraft controls your character, you can't open Skyrim's inventory, magic, shouts or perks, and you can't switch back to regular Skyrim in-game. It's a fan project, not affiliated with Mojang, Microsoft, Bethesda or ZeniMax.

The latest version is 0.1.2 from October 1. The main archive has been downloaded 13,140 times, and the repository has 1,024 stars (as of October 7, 2026). Keep in mind that GitHub counts file downloads, not players. You can get the original only from the Releases tab in the chasmlol/SkyCraft repository. On October 7, a Nexus Mods search did not show a SkyCraft page.

Skyrim in Minecraft, the other way around

Don't confuse SkyCraft with Skyrimcraft. The Ender Scrolls - Skyrimcraft by ryankshah is a separate, regular mod that brings Skyrim's world into Minecraft. Skyrimcraft on Modrinth runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge in Minecraft 1.20.4, 1.20.6, 1.21 and 1.21.1. It has 10,296 downloads (as of October 7, 2026).

The official Skyrim Mash-up pack includes about 40 skins, among them the Dragonborn and Lydia, a texture pack and a world with Riverwood and Whiterun. It came to consoles first, and on June 3, 2017 minecraft.net announced its release on Pocket Edition and Windows 10.

Skyrim itself includes a nod to Notch, the creator of Minecraft: the Notched Pickaxe. We covered this Minecraft easter egg in Skyrim back in 2011, along with the dispute between Mojang and ZeniMax over the name Scrolls. Skyrim-style ragdoll physics come to Minecraft with the Sable: Ragdolls mod.

Elden Ring and GTA 5: what you can actually download

Tobyn Jacobs' clip shows Minecraft in the Lands Between, but the author calls the mod a private build that is still in development. He answered accusations of faking it with 2 phone recordings of himself playing on a laptop. According to BisectHosting, as of October 1 there was no download file, no code and no release date. The file still hasn't appeared (as of October 7, 2026).

That's why every "download version" of this mod is fake. Since September 30, GitHub has hosted an Elden-Ring-Minecraft-Mod repository with a file called EldenRingMod-Installer.zip. It is not Tobyn's mod and nobody knows what's in the archive, so don't download it. The genuine Minecraft-themed mods on Nexus Mods are cosmetic, for example Minecraft Horse Torrent and Minecraft Diamond Sword. Only enable Elden Ring mods offline.

For GTA 5, there is real code behind the clips: the rehan-remade/universal-modder repository, a toolkit that lets Claude Code mod PC games. Its minecraft-gta5-passthrough example puts Minecraft into GTA V's story mode: TNT, arrows and fireworks turn into explosions and projectiles, and mobs fight the police. It's source code only, which you have to compile. Ready-made packages are uploaded by third parties, so check the uploader, the comments and VirusTotal scans.

There are also cosmetic add-ons on gta5-mods.com, for example Minecraft Steve [Add-On Ped]. Use them only in story mode, offline, because BattlEye has protected GTA Online since September 2024. According to a 2017 Rockstar statement (DSOGaming), Take-Two generally doesn't go after non-commercial single-player mods for Rockstar's PC games that respect others' intellectual property. A Minecraft mod uses someone else's brand, so that statement doesn't cover it, but that doesn't mean the publisher will react.

According to the GTA VI page on rockstargames.com, the game is due out on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only (as of October 7, 2026). Any "GTA 6 on PC" and any "mod" for that game is a scam. In Minecraft, meanwhile, a fan is recreating GTA 6's Vice City at 1:1 scale.

How to install mods like these safely

Only download mods from the original sites. SkyCraft's files are SkyCraft-0.1.x.zip, skycraft-fabric-0.1.x.jar and SkyCraft-0.1.x-pdb.zip from the Releases tab, with no .exe or installer. Enter your Microsoft account details only in the Microsoft login window inside the bundled Prism Launcher. Never type your password or a code into any website, Discord bot or "verifier".

Warning signs:

a password-protected archive,
a link from a YouTube or TikTok video description,
a "mod installer" instead of plain files,
a request to disable your antivirus.

Stars and download counters don't prove a file is safe: in 2024, Check Point described a network of more than 3,000 GitHub accounts that starred malicious repositories. A trusted mod can also turn dangerous after an update: in April 2025, the author of a popular Schedule I mod sold their Nexus Mods account, and the new owner uploaded a version with a trojan (KitGuru). As we reported in July, the WeedHack campaign has infected more than 116,000 computers since January 2026 through fake Minecraft mods and PvP clients.

Fake Fabric mods with LoaderClient can steal your login token and take over your Minecraft account, and a fake "verification" on Discord tricks you into handing over the one-time code Microsoft emails you. A note for parents: according to PEGI, Elden Ring is rated 16, Skyrim Special Edition, Anniversary Edition and GTA V are rated 18, and Minecraft: Java Edition is rated 7. A Minecraft theme doesn't change those ratings.
