Minecraft arrives natively on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026, and Mojang has revealed the full launch details: a free upgrade for some players, the new Vibrant Visuals graphics as the default setting, and a bundled Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. The free upgrade offer only runs until the end of January 2027, though, so owners of the digital version on the older Switch have a limited window to claim it.
Who gets the upgrade for free
The rule is simple, although it has a few exceptions. According to the official post on minecraft.net, anyone who owns the digital version of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch can pre-order the digital Standard Edition for Switch 2 for free until the end of January 2027 in most regions. The exceptions are Japan and Taiwan, where players will pay a token 100 yen or 30 New Taiwan dollars instead of the full price.
Owners of physical cartridges got a worse deal. Nintendo Life points out that there is no upgrade path at all for this group: to play the native version on Switch 2, you have to buy the game again at the full price of $29.99. Mojang hasn't announced any solution for these players yet, which has caused quite a bit of frustration in community comments.
Players who don't qualify for the free update can buy the Standard Edition for $29.99, while those who want more content can go for the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection, which cost less than buying the add-ons separately. Both expanded bundles include popular add-ons, exclusive Character Creator items, and Minecoins.
Vibrant Visuals as the default graphics
The biggest technical news is that Nintendo Switch 2 renders the Minecraft world with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. This graphics package brings directional lighting, volumetric fog, and noticeably improved shadows, the same effects that have been arriving on PC and last-generation consoles for a while now. Mojang notes, however, that Vibrant Visuals isn't available in every situation: the limitations include split-screen play and some Marketplace worlds.
For Polish players who have so far treated the Switch mainly as a platform for gaming on the go, this is a real visual upgrade with no loss of portability. It's worth remembering that the same game is also available as Bedrock Edition, so a world saved on the console should move between devices within the same Microsoft account ecosystem without any problems.
Super Mario Mash-Up Pack included
Every edition of the game on Switch 2, digital and boxed, includes an updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack that works with Vibrant Visuals. The pack, exclusive to Nintendo platforms, brings themes from the Mushroom Kingdom to the game: 15 music tracks and 40 character skins inspired by the Mario series. It's an add-on already familiar from earlier Switch versions, now refreshed for the new graphics.
- Standard Edition: $29.99 for new buyers
- Free upgrade for owners of the digital version on Switch 1 (until the end of January 2027, except in Japan and Taiwan)
- Deluxe Collection and Ultimate Collection: bundles with add-ons, Minecoins, and Character Creator items
- Super Mario Mash-Up Pack included in every edition
- Vibrant Visuals: default graphics, with limitations in split-screen and some Marketplace worlds
What it means for owners of older worlds
Mojang assures players that existing Switch players will be able to transfer their worlds to the new version, making it easier to return to projects they started earlier without starting from scratch. That matters especially for people who have spent years expanding their survival worlds or builds on the older console and worried about losing progress when switching hardware.
For new players in Poland wondering whether to buy a Switch 2 for Minecraft, this is a good moment: the October 27 launch coincides with the first wave of games that fully use the new hardware's power, and a complete overview of game versions and requirements can be found in our versions overview section. If you'd like to try the game on a computer before deciding on a console, you can use Java Edition, available right after purchase.
A limited window
The key deadline is the end of January 2027. After that date, the free upgrade offer for owners of the digital version on the older Switch will most likely expire, and getting the native Switch 2 version will require buying it at the standard price. Mojang hasn't said yet whether any transitional promotions are planned after that date, so anyone interested should claim the upgrade early through the Nintendo eShop.
