Description
SEUS PTGI (Path Traced Global Illumination) is the most ambitious project in the history of Minecraft shaders. Sonic Ether implemented full path tracing without relying on hardware RT cores: every pixel is the result of a traced ray of light bouncing off colored blocks. A torch in a corridor lights up the walls realistically, with a natural falloff in brightness. Light streaming through a narrow window forms a beam with visible dust particles in it. This realism comes at a high price: you need at least an RTX 3060, and you'll have to keep your render distance at 8-10 chunks. It's available only through Patreon and requires OptiFine.
Highlights
- Full path tracing without RT cores
- The most realistic lighting
- Paid (Patreon)
Features and graphical effects
SEUS PTGI adds the following graphical effects that transform how Minecraft looks:
- Path tracing
- Global illumination
- Realistic reflections
- Water caustics
- Light-emitting blocks
- Volumetric clouds
Hardware requirements
SEUS PTGI falls into the very demanding performance tier. Its estimated FPS impact is -70% compared to vanilla Minecraft.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum graphics card | RTX 3060 |
| Recommended graphics card | RTX 4070 |
| FPS impact | -70% |
| Mod loader | OptiFine |
If your FPS drops below 30, lower your render distance to 8 chunks and turn off volumetric clouds in the shader settings. You'll find more tips in our shader guide.
How to install SEUS PTGI
- Make sure you have OptiFine installed. For step-by-step instructions, see Iris Shaders.
- Download SEUS PTGI from the official site. The file is a .zip archive.
- Don't unzip the archive. Copy the whole .zip file into the
.minecraft/shaderpacks/folder. - Launch Minecraft, open Options, then Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select SEUS PTGI from the list.
- Adjust the shader settings to suit your taste and your hardware.

Frequently asked questions about SEUS PTGI
Does SEUS PTGI work on Iris?
No, SEUS PTGI requires OptiFine and doesn't work on Iris Shaders. That means you can't use Sodium or most Fabric mods together with this shader.
What graphics card do I need for SEUS PTGI?
The minimum graphics card is the RTX 3060. For comfortable gameplay (60+ FPS at 1080p), we recommend the RTX 4070.
If you don't know which card you have, press Win + R, type dxdiag and check the Display tab.
Can I use SEUS PTGI with a texture pack?
Yes. Shaders work great with texture packs. Pairing SEUS PTGI with a PBR pack (such as Patrix, Stratum or UMSOEA) gives especially impressive results, because the shader can use the extra material information stored in the pack's normal and specular maps.
Does SEUS PTGI work on servers?
Yes. Shaders run only on the client side and don't require any changes on the server. You can use SEUS PTGI on any server, regardless of its configuration.
