EconomyShopGUI: a free GUI shop

EconomyShopGUI is a free alternative to the paid ShopGUI+. It gives you an admin shop with click-through menus, /sell hand and /sell all commands, and support for versions 1.8 to 1.21.x. Dynamic prices based on supply and demand come with the Premium version. A good fit for servers that want a GUI shop without spending money.

What EconomyShopGUI is

EconomyShopGUI is a free shop plugin with a full graphical interface. It works the same way as ShopGUI+: the admin configures the stock and prices, and players buy and sell through click menus opened with the /shop command.

Gypopo has been developing the plugin since 2020, and it became popular as a free replacement for ShopGUI+. It has over 200,000 downloads on SpigotMC. It doesn't require a license and is actively updated for new Minecraft versions.

EconomyShopGUI is available on SpigotMC. It requires Vault and an economy plugin (for example EssentialsX). It can optionally use PlayerPoints and TokenManager as alternative currencies.

Installation and dependencies

EconomyShopGUI's dependency stack:

EconomyShopGUI
    ├─ Vault (required)
    │ └─ EssentialsX Economy / CMI / CoinsEngine
├─ PlayerPoints (optional - points currency)
    └─ PlaceholderAPI (optional - placeholders)
  1. Install Vault and an economy plugin.
  2. Download EconomyShopGUI from SpigotMC.
  3. Drop the .jar file into the plugins/ folder.
  4. Start the server. The plugin generates a default config with a ready-made shop.

The default config includes sample categories and items, so the shop works right after installation. You can try it with the /shop command without any extra configuration.

Shop configuration

The config file structure:

plugins/EconomyShopGUI/
    ├─ config.yml # main configuration
    ├─ shops/
    │ ├─ blocks.yml # category: blocks
    │ ├─ food.yml # category: food
    │ ├─ tools.yml # category: tools
    │ └─ weapons.yml # category: weapons
    └─ messages.yml # messages (for translation)

An example product in a category file:

items:
  diamond:
    material: DIAMOND
    buy-price: 150.0
    sell-price: 75.0
    slot: 10
    lore:
      - "&7Buy price: &a$150"
      - "&7Sell price: &c$75"

EconomyShopGUI supports custom items with custom model data, enchantments and lore. You can sell ready-made enchanted tools (for example an Efficiency V pickaxe for $2,000) or items from ItemsAdder and Oraxen.

Commands and permissions

Command Description Permission
/shop Opens the main shop menu economyshopgui.shop
/shop [category] Opens a specific category economyshopgui.shop
/sellhand Sells the item in your hand economyshopgui.sellhand
/sellall Sells your whole inventory economyshopgui.sellall
/sellgui Sell GUI (drag and drop) economyshopgui.sellgui
/esgreload Reloads the configuration economyshopgui.reload

You control category permissions through LuckPerms: economyshopgui.shop.[category_name]. Players without the permission don't see that category in the menu.

Dynamic prices

EconomyShopGUI Premium (the extended version) offers a dynamic pricing system. It works on supply and demand:

  • When players buy an item in bulk, its price goes up.
  • When they sell it in bulk, the price drops.
  • Prices reset to their base values after a configured time.

The system is configurable per item. You can set dynamic prices on raw materials (where fluctuations make sense) and fixed prices on tools and weapons (where players expect predictability).

Dynamic prices require EconomyShopGUI Premium, a separate .jar that extends the base version.

EconomyShopGUI vs ShopGUI+

Feature EconomyShopGUI ShopGUI+
Price Free $15
GUI shop Yes Yes
Dynamic prices Yes (Premium) Yes
/sell hand and /sell all Yes Yes
Selling commands Limited Full
Multiple currencies Vault + PlayerPoints Vault + many providers
Documentation Good Very good

For most servers EconomyShopGUI is enough. ShopGUI+ has the edge in advanced features (selling commands, a more extensive API), but it costs $15. If you need a simple GUI shop, EconomyShopGUI gets the job done without spending money.
