The best Minecraft modpacks in 2026
Modpacks can turn Minecraft into a completely different game: brutal survival, an automation factory, a medieval RPG or a skyblock challenge. We picked ten modpacks that stand out in 2026 for quality, community activity and regular updates. Each offers dozens of hours of gameplay. Many of them run on older, proven versions of Minecraft Java Edition (e.g. ATM10 on 1.21.1 and Prominence II on 1.20.1), so check which game version a pack targets before installing.
1. All The Mods 10
Mod loader: NeoForge | Mod count: 400+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Kitchen sink
The flagship modpack of the ATM series, with over 400 mods. It combines technology, magic, exploration and building with no forced progression: you decide what to focus on. It includes mods such as Mekanism, Create, Applied Energistics 2, Botania and hundreds more. Popular on multiplayer servers thanks to its great optimization. For fans of total freedom.
2. RLCraft 3
Mod loader: NeoForge | Mod count: 180+ | Difficulty: Very hard | Category: Adventure
The third installment of the legendary survival modpack. RLCraft turns Minecraft into a brutal survival game with thirst, temperature and wound mechanics and realistic physics. Dragons, hydras and other beasts patrol the world. You'll die dozens of times before you build your first house. Not for the faint of heart.
3. Create: Above and Beyond
Mod loader: Fabric | Mod count: 90+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Tech
A modpack built around the Create mod, which adds mechanical devices powered by cogwheels, belts and engines. The pack guides you through quest-based progression from simple machines to advanced automation. The steampunk look combined with thoughtful design makes this one of the most elegant experiences in Minecraft.
4. Vault Hunters
Mod loader: NeoForge | Mod count: 150+ | Difficulty: Hard | Category: Adventure / RPG
A modpack created by Iskall85 and popularized by HermitCraft. The mechanics are built around randomly generated vaults, where you fight monsters against the clock and collect loot. An RPG skill system, talent trees and unique items. Every vault is a new challenge. Ideal for players looking for endgame content.
5. Better Minecraft
Mod loader: Fabric / NeoForge | Mod count: 200+ | Difficulty: Easy | Category: Kitchen sink
A modpack for those who want an improved vanilla instead of an entirely new game. Better Minecraft adds new biomes, structures, mobs and items but keeps the feel of the original Minecraft. There are no complicated energy systems or magic rituals here. A great modpack to start your modding adventure, because everything is intuitive.
6. Prominence II RPG
Mod loader: Fabric | Mod count: 200+ | Difficulty: Hard | Category: RPG / Adventure
An ambitious RPG modpack with character classes, story quests, dungeons and a progression system straight out of CRPGs. It has over 30 custom bosses, hundreds of unique items and an extensive skill tree. The world is full of dangers, but the rewards for exploring are huge. For lovers of adventure and storytelling. As of October 2026: the pack runs on Fabric 1.20.1, and the big 4.0.0 update, The Kingdom of Vaaz, from August 7, 2026 added a capital city with NPCs, recorded character voices and Mythic Challenges.
7. All of Fabric 7
Mod loader: Fabric | Mod count: 250+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Kitchen sink
The counterpart of All The Mods on the Fabric platform. Over 250 mods focused on technology, magic and exploration. Fabric delivers better performance than NeoForge, so the modpack runs more smoothly on weaker computers. It includes a quest system that guides you through the main mods. A good choice for players who prefer the Fabric ecosystem.
8. Medieval MC
Mod loader: Fabric / NeoForge | Mod count: 180+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Adventure / Building
A modpack that takes Minecraft into the Middle Ages. New biomes, castles, villages with NPCs, a reputation and trading system. Melee weapons, shields, armor and sieges. No modern technology, but full of knights, dragons and dark dungeons. Ideal for playing with friends on an RPG server.
9. Enigmatica 10
Mod loader: NeoForge | Mod count: 300+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Kitchen sink / Educational
A modpack famous for an excellent quest system that teaches you to use every installed mod. Instead of throwing you in at the deep end, Enigmatica walks you step by step through Mekanism, Create, Botania and dozens of other mods. The best modpack for people who want to learn modded Minecraft from the ground up.
10. SkyFactory 5
Mod loader: NeoForge | Mod count: 150+ | Difficulty: Medium | Category: Skyblock
The fifth installment of the most popular skyblock series. You start on a small island in the sky with one tree and a handful of resources. Progression is based on quests and automation, from sifting dirt by hand, through mob farms, to automated factories producing everything you need. Addictive gameplay with a satisfying sense of progress.
Autumn 2026 news: ATM11, Create Aeronautics, Verity and The Sift
As of October 2026, Minecraft 26.3 already has Fabric, Forge 66.0.x (first release on September 19, 2026) and NeoForge in beta, but big modpacks are moving to the 26.x versions gradually. One of the first is Fabulously Optimized 15, released for 26.3 in alpha versions since September 16, 2026. Besides the ranking, a few new projects have appeared that players often ask about:
- All the Mods 11 (ATM11) - the next installment of the ATM series on NeoForge, available on CurseForge. For now it's in beta (version 0.5.0 for Minecraft 26.1.2), and the developers haven't given a date for the full release. The stable pack in this series remains ATM10 on 1.21.1.
- Create Aeronautics - an addon for the Create mod that lets you build flying machines and vehicles, based on the Sable physics library. It's a mod, not a ready-made pack, and it only runs on NeoForge 1.21.1. The latest releases are the 1.3.1 (August 17, 2026) and 1.3.2 (August 29, 2026) patches.
- Verity packs - horror modpacks on Forge 1.20.1 built around the Verity JE mod, e.g. Verity + Optimized and Verity One Block on Modrinth and VerityCraft on CurseForge. Verity JE uses AI through the external Groq service, so it needs an internet connection. Details and privacy notes are in our guide to horror mods.
- Mielon's The Sift - an unofficial fan mod, published on Modrinth on September 25, 2026, with its own version of the Sift dimension from Minecraft Dungeons II. It runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge in versions 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.2 and 26.3. Mojang has announced the real Sift dimension for Java and Bedrock for 2027 (more in our news article).

How to choose a modpack
The right modpack depends on your play style and experience. If you've never played with mods before, start with Better Minecraft or Enigmatica 10, since both ease you gently into the modding world. If you want a challenge, RLCraft 3 and Vault Hunters will test your patience. If you like building factories and automation, go for Create: Above and Beyond or All The Mods 10. And if your computer is weaker, reach for the Fabric packs: All of Fabric 7 and Prominence II run much more smoothly than their NeoForge counterparts.
Keep in mind that modpacks need more RAM than vanilla Minecraft. For the packs on this list we recommend at least 6 GB of allocated RAM, and for ATM10 and Enigmatica 10 as much as 8-10 GB. You'll find modpack installation instructions in our modpack guide, and if you want to make your own pack, see how to create a modpack.
