What is Thaumcraft?

Thaumcraft is a legendary magic mod by Azanor that defined the magic mod category for more than a decade. The name comes from the Greek thaumaturgos, a worker of wonders. The mod introduces a magic system based on aspects: magical properties hidden in every block and item in the game.

The heart of Thaumcraft is the Thaumonomicon, a magical book that serves as a guide to all research and recipes. The player discovers new technologies through the research system: scanning items, combining aspects and unlocking ever more powerful spells and devices. This is not a mod where you get everything at once. Progression is slow, satisfying and full of surprises.

Thaumcraft also introduced the concept of flux and warp: magical pollution that builds up when you use magic recklessly. Too much warp causes hallucinations, attacks by strange creatures and the opening of portals to the Eldritch dimension.

How to install Thaumcraft

1. Install Minecraft Forge for version 1.12.2 from minecraftforge.net.
2. Download Thaumcraft 6 from CurseForge, plus the required Baubles mod.
3. Copy both .jar files into the .minecraft/mods/ folder.
4. Launch Minecraft with Forge 1.12.2. Craft a Thaumonomicon (with a book and Salis Mundus) to start your research.
