Photon Shaders is one of the newest and most advanced shader packs for Minecraft. Created by sixthsurge, Photon focuses on realistic lighting built on voxel-based techniques.
In practice that means light in Photon behaves realistically: it passes through colored glass, reflects off smooth surfaces, spreads through caves from torches and casts soft, natural shadows. Lava underground genuinely lights up the walls, and sunlight coming through a window fills the whole room with a warm glow.
Photon also delivers a beautiful atmosphere: volumetric fog, realistic clouds, water detail and rich sunsets. It's a shader built for maximum graphics quality, so it needs strong hardware. Free and available on Modrinth.
How to install Photon Shaders
- Install Iris Shaders + Sodium (recommended for the best performance).
- Download Photon from Modrinth.
- Put the
.zipfile in.minecraft/shaderpacks/. - Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs > Photon.
