Best Minecraft server hosting in 2026

When you set up a server for friends or launch a public project, the host you pick is one of the most important decisions: the wrong one means lag, outages and a frustrated community. Here is an honest comparison of Polish and international Minecraft hosts, with no sponsored sugarcoating.

What to look for when choosing a host

The Minecraft hosting market is crowded. Every company promises "the lowest lag", "100% uptime" and "the best support". To avoid falling for the marketing, focus on a few concrete specs.

RAM: the key resource

RAM is the main driver of price and performance. Vanilla Minecraft needs at least 1 GB, but in practice:

  • 2-4 players, Vanilla/Paper: 1-2 GB RAM
  • 5-15 players with plugins: 2-4 GB RAM
  • 20-50 players with plugins: 4-8 GB RAM
  • Modpacks (Forge/Fabric): 6-16 GB RAM depending on the pack
  • Large server networks (BungeeCord/Velocity): 16 GB+ RAM

Important: host prices are often quoted "per GB of RAM". A host charging 5 PLN/GB for 4 GB costs 20 PLN a month. Always compare the total cost, not just the price per GB.

CPU: often overlooked

Minecraft is largely single-threaded, so what matters is the speed of a single core (single-thread performance), not the number of cores. A host with 4 cores of a slow Xeon can be worse than a VPS with 2 cores of a newer AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon Gold. Ask for the exact processor model, not just a "dedicated CPU".

Disk: NVMe vs HDD

This makes a huge difference. A Minecraft server works heavily with the world map files (chunk loading). An HDD causes delays when loading chunks, especially in the early stage of the game. Look for hosts with NVMe SSD drives, which are standard in 2026, not a premium feature.

Server location

For players in Poland, the best ping comes from a server in Poland, Germany or generally central Europe (the Netherlands, France). Latency from servers in the US is 100-150 ms, which you notice during PvP fights or precise actions. In small PvE groups of friends it matters less.

Control panel

The two main standards are Pterodactyl (open-source, modern, runs in the browser) and Multicraft (older, but popular). Pterodactyl is much better: it gives you access to the file system, a real-time console and schedule management. Avoid hosts with custom panels that look like websites from 2012.

DDoS protection

Popular Minecraft servers are attacked regularly. Check whether the host offers DDoS protection of at least 100 Gbps. In 2026 that is standard among reputable providers. Without it, your server can get hit again and again, especially once you launch it publicly.

Technical support

Judge the quality of support before you buy: browse the forums, check the provider's Discord and look for opinions on Reddit and in Minecraft groups. Ticket response time should be under 24 hours, and under 2 hours for critical problems.

Polish Minecraft hosts

Polish hosts have one key advantage: servers physically in Poland or right next to it, which means a ping under 20 ms for players in Poland. Support in Polish is an extra plus.

craftserve.pl

Rating: 4.5/5

Craftserve is one of the most popular Polish Minecraft hosts, running for years with a steady user base. It uses the Pterodactyl panel, and its servers are in Poland (Warsaw). It offers a wide choice of server versions, from Vanilla through Paper, Fabric and Forge to ready-made modpacks with one click.

  • Pros: Pterodactyl panel, servers in Poland, good documentation in Polish, automatic backups, mod and modpack support, affordable prices
  • Cons: under heavy load there can be slowdowns on shared resources, and ticket support can be slow on weekends
  • Price: about 5-8 PLN per GB of RAM per month

hostmc.pl

Rating: 4/5

HostMC is a host dedicated exclusively to Minecraft servers, located in Poland. It stands out with a flexible approach to configuration: you can order a server with a custom amount of RAM, vCPU and disk space. Support in Polish and fast ticket responses.

  • Pros: flexible plans, Polish support, servers in Poland, modpack support
  • Cons: the panel is less intuitive than the Pterodactyl panels of its competitors, and the documentation could be more complete
  • Price: about 6-10 PLN per GB of RAM per month

lvlup.pro

Rating: 3.5/5

Lvlup.pro is a gaming host (not only Minecraft) offering game servers in central Europe. Prices are competitive and the infrastructure is modern. The downside: support is sometimes in English, and the Polish documentation is thin. A good choice if you want a low price and don't mind configuring things yourself.

  • Pros: competitive prices, modern infrastructure, NVMe SSD, DDoS protection
  • Cons: support mostly in English, a smaller Polish community, sparse documentation in Polish
  • Price: about 4-7 PLN per GB of RAM per month

International hosts

International hosts operate on a global scale and often have locations in Europe (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam), which minimizes the difference in latency. Their advantage is usually greater stability, better infrastructure and more advanced features. The downsides: support in English only and billing in USD or EUR.

Apex Hosting

Rating: 4.5/5

Apex Hosting is one of the largest Minecraft hosts in the world, with locations in Europe (Germany). The Multicraft panel is a bit dated, but very stable. It stands out with a huge knowledge base, 24/7 live chat support and a simple modpack installer (over 100 ready-made packs). A good choice for beginners.

  • Pros: 24/7 live chat, great documentation, easy modpack installer, location in Europe, mature platform
  • Cons: Multicraft panel (older), prices slightly higher than the competition, shared CPU resources
  • Price: about 5-7 USD per GB of RAM per month (EU location)

Shockbyte

Rating: 4/5

Shockbyte has been running since 2013 and has a solid reputation. It offers servers in Europe (Amsterdam), with a Multicraft or Pterodactyl panel depending on the plan. Prices are among the lower ones for Western hosts, which makes it a popular pick for players looking for an affordable international option.

  • Pros: low prices, location in Europe, a long history on the market, automatic backups, modpack support
  • Cons: support can be overloaded (long response times), and CPU resources are limited on the cheapest plans
  • Price: about 2.5-5 USD per GB of RAM per month

BisectHosting

Rating: 4/5

BisectHosting stands out with the widest list of server locations, including several in Europe (Germany, France, United Kingdom). It uses the Multicraft panel, but also offers Pterodactyl on selected plans. It is popular with modpack creators: it is an official partner host of CurseForge and the Technic Platform.

  • Pros: many EU locations, official CurseForge partner, good value for money, flexible plans
  • Cons: Multicraft panel on most plans, shared CPU resources on the cheaper plans
  • Price: about 3-6 USD per GB of RAM per month

MCProHosting

Rating: 3.5/5

MCProHosting is one of the longest-running Minecraft hosts. It has locations in Europe, but it costs more than the competition without a clear quality advantage. Multicraft panel, 24/7 support. A good choice if you care about a brand with a history rather than the best value for money.

  • Pros: a long history, 24/7 support, locations in Europe, extensive documentation
  • Cons: higher prices for weaker resources than the competition, Multicraft panel with no Pterodactyl option, mixed opinions about stability
  • Price: about 5-9 USD per GB of RAM per month

Pebblehost

Rating: 4/5

Pebblehost gained popularity thanks to very low prices at decent quality. Pterodactyl panel, locations in Europe (France). Players running small servers for friends praise it especially, because the value for money on the low-end plans is great. Under heavy load, shared CPU performance can cause problems.

  • Pros: very low prices, Pterodactyl panel, location in Europe, a good Discord community
  • Cons: CPU resources are shared aggressively, and support relies mainly on Discord and tickets rather than live chat
  • Price: about 1.5-3.5 USD per GB of RAM per month

Hosts with the Pterodactyl panel

Pterodactyl Game Panel is an open-source panel for managing game servers that has become the de facto industry standard. If you can choose between Multicraft and Pterodactyl, pick Pterodactyl. There is no question about it.

Why Pterodactyl is better than Multicraft

  • Browser-based file manager: edit configuration files directly in the panel, no SFTP needed
  • Real-time console: watch the server logs live
  • Task scheduler: automatic restarts, backups and custom commands at set times
  • Resource allocation: clearly shows RAM, CPU and disk usage
  • Subusers: you can give server admins limited access without sharing the main password
  • API: you can manage the server programmatically

Hosts with Pterodactyl in this ranking: craftserve.pl, lvlup.pro, Pebblehost, and some plans from Shockbyte and BisectHosting.

VPS vs Minecraft hosting: which to choose

This question comes up regularly among players with a bigger budget. The answer depends on your technical skills and needs.

Minecraft hosting (shared/managed)

Minecraft hosting is a specialized server with ready-made infrastructure for Java and Minecraft. You get a panel, automatic backups, support and a modpack installer. You pay for convenience.

  • Best for: players with no experience administering Linux servers, small to medium servers
  • Resources: shared (CPU problems are possible because of neighbors)
  • Price: higher than a VPS for the same resources
  • Setup: none, it works right away

VPS (Virtual Private Server)

A VPS gives you a dedicated virtual server with full root access. You install Java, configure the system and manage security yourself. You can install Pterodactyl yourself and get the same panel the hosts offer, for a fraction of the price.

  • Best for: people who know Linux, larger servers with custom requirements, BungeeCord/Velocity networks
  • Resources: dedicated CPU and RAM, NVMe SSD
  • Price: much lower with budget providers (Hetzner, OVH)
  • Setup: requires Linux knowledge (Ubuntu/Debian), Java, firewall configuration and systemd

Recommendation: If you are planning a server for 5-20 friends, buy Minecraft hosting. If you are building a bigger project with many game modes, or a modpack that needs 8+ GB of RAM, a Hetzner VPS with your own Pterodactyl is often 2-3x cheaper with better performance.

Popular VPS providers for Minecraft

  • Hetzner Cloud (hetzner.com): servers in Germany and Finland, the best price/performance in Europe, AMD EPYC, NVMe SSD. The CX22 (4 GB RAM) costs about 7 EUR a month
  • OVH/OVHcloud: servers in Poland and across Europe, its own DDoS infrastructure (VAC), cheap starter plans
  • Vultr: good EU locations, easy panel, a bit pricier than Hetzner
  • DigitalOcean: popular with developers, location in Amsterdam, higher prices

Free alternatives

If you are looking for free hosting, you have a few options, each with trade-offs worth knowing up front.

Aternos

Aternos is the most popular free Minecraft host. The server shuts down once all players leave and starts on demand (with a queue). Resources are limited, but for a small group of friends who play irregularly it is enough. Details in a separate article: Aternos: how free Minecraft hosting works.

Minehut

Minehut offers a free plan with limited resources and ads. The server runs in the US, so players in Poland will notice a higher ping. Paid plans remove the ads and give you more resources, but prices are expressed in the service's internal currency.

Playit.gg (a tunnel, not a host)

Playit.gg is not a host, but a way to expose a server running on your home computer through a secure tunnel, with no need to open ports on your router. If you have a good computer and a stable connection, it is a free and decent alternative to hosting. More in the article free Minecraft hosting.

Oracle Cloud Free Tier

Oracle Cloud offers a free Ampere virtual machine (ARM, 4 vCPU, 24 GB RAM!) forever as part of its free tier. Technically it is a VPS that you have to configure yourself, but the resources are impressive. It requires signing up with a credit card and knowing Linux. Not suitable for beginners.

How to choose a host: a practical guide

Instead of an overwhelming list of options, answer a few questions and match the solution to your situation.

Step 1: How many players?

Fewer than 5 players, irregular play → Aternos (free) is enough.
5-20 players, regular play → Minecraft hosting, 2-4 GB RAM.
20-100 players → Minecraft hosting with 4-8 GB RAM, or a VPS.
100+ players or a network of game modes → VPS/dedicated server + your own infrastructure.

Step 2: Vanilla or modded?

Vanilla/Paper with plugins → any host.
Modpack with up to 100 mods → check the modpack installer (Apex, BisectHosting, craftserve).
Heavy modpacks (ATM, FTB Infinity) → at least 8 GB RAM, a VPS or premium hosting.

Step 3: Where are your players?

Everyone from Poland → craftserve.pl or hostmc.pl for the lowest ping.
Mixed Europe → Pebblehost EU, BisectHosting EU, Shockbyte Amsterdam.
Global community → pick a host with many locations (BisectHosting, Apex).

Step 4: What is your budget?

0 PLN → Aternos or Oracle Cloud Free Tier.
10-20 PLN/month → Pebblehost (EU), lvlup.pro, Shockbyte.
20-40 PLN/month → craftserve.pl, hostmc.pl, Apex Hosting EU.
40+ PLN/month → a Hetzner VPS + your own Pterodactyl, or premium hosts.

What else to check

Before you pay, check a few things:

  • Does the host offer a free trial or a money-back guarantee (usually 72 hours or 7 days)?
  • What are the cancellation terms? Can you cancel at any time?
  • Is the price on the website before VAT? In Poland, add 23% VAT to compare prices fairly
  • What does server migration look like? Can you easily move your files to another host?
  • Read the reviews on Trustpilot and Reddit (/r/admincraft) and look for patterns of complaints, not one-off opinions
