Mike Tomlin, longtime head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has shown the world Tomlinburg, a sprawling Minecraft city he has been building in Creative mode for 12 years. The ninety-minute tour of the city premiered on September 30, 2026 on the coach's YouTube channel and pulled in 20,000 concurrent viewers, reaching 264,000 views within a few hours.

Twelve years of building in Creative mode

Tomlin started building Tomlinburg when his kids were little and they were discovering Minecraft together. "I have a Minecraft city, I'm creative, that I've been working on for like 12 years," the coach said, as quoted by Bleacher Report.

Tomlin admits he doesn't feel strong in Survival mode, but in Creative, building has become a way to unwind and a way to get away from the pressure that comes with working in the NFL. According to Yahoo Sports, the city includes therapy rooms, public restrooms, a baseball stadium and glass elevators, among other things.

The YouTube premiere and viewer reaction

Before the premiere, the announcement for the stream on the @miket757 channel racked up more than 7.7 million views on a post on X, even though the channel itself had only about 11,100 subscribers at the time, according to Yahoo Sports. The stream kicked off on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 8:00 PM.

The ninety-minute tour of Tomlinburg drew 20,000 concurrent viewers and finished the night on Wednesday with 264,000 views, Yahoo Sports reports. Tomlin said it's the first in a series of episodes showing off more parts of the city.

Hotel, spa and speakeasy: what's inside Tomlinburg

During the tour, Tomlin showed viewers a boutique hotel with an executive spa, a multipurpose conference room, a dining area and a speakeasy, a hidden Prohibition-style bar. The first episode focused on rooftops, penthouses and the downtown buildings, and in the description he wrote: "In this episode, I discuss why I decided to start the Minecraft City, followed by an examination of the first building downtown," as quoted by Yahoo Sports.

Among the quirks is a penthouse inspired by Trump Tower, which Tomlin tagged with a disclaimer that it is not a political endorsement. The build goes for realism and the practical amenities you'd find in real urban architecture, rather than the fantastical structures common in many other big Minecraft building projects.

Why an NFL coach plays Minecraft

Tomlin said it was his son who pushed him to show the city to the world. "We've been talking recently about sharing it with the world. My oldest son is like, 'Dad, you gotta share this with the world,'" the coach said, as quoted by Bleacher Report.

Tomlin's project joins a long list of unusual, years-in-the-making Minecraft builds made by famous people and architecture hobbyists alike. In Poland, building fans can look for inspiration in building guides or grab ready-made seeds with terrain that suits urban builds. It's also worth checking how Creative mode works and which blocks are available on the Minecraft wiki.

What's next for the Tomlinburg series

Tomlin has announced the series will continue, promising more episodes that show other parts of the city, though he hasn't given a specific release schedule yet. Given how much interest the first episode drew, the coach may be gaining a second identity online: not just an NFL head coach, but also one of the more persistent builders in Minecraft history.
