Minecraft Bedrock Edition got a hefty dose of anime this week: the paid "Dragon Ball Z" add-on from studio Cyclone received the "1.1 Legends Update" on October 21, 2026. Bardock, Teen Gohan, Gotenks and Vegetto join the fighter roster, and story mode gains four new fights plus a tournament for eight players. It's the first major expansion of the DLC since its launch in November 2025.

What the Legends Update changes

The changelog published by the developers lists several concrete additions that change how the add-on plays. The most important is the new "Ki Charge" mechanic, which lets you charge your ultimate bar mid-fight and opens the way to the stronger finishers known from the show.

  • Four new fighters: Bardock, Teen Gohan, Gotenks and Vegetto
  • Four more story mode fights
  • New Custom Tournament mode for up to eight players
  • 11 alternate versions of the original characters
  • Two new NPCs and new battle arenas

The changes only go to owners of the add-on, so you need to have bought the DLC on your Microsoft account beforehand. The update installs automatically when you launch Bedrock Edition, just like other Marketplace packs.

Dragon Ball Z in Minecraft: a short history of the add-on

The "Dragon Ball Z" add-on debuted on November 4, 2025 as a licensed collaboration between Mojang, Toei Animation and Cyclone, a studio known for earlier maps and game modes on the Marketplace. The pack costs 1510 Minecoins, which according to Instant Gaming works out to roughly 7.91 USD or 7.46 EUR, depending on your region.

Since launch, the add-on has offered nearly 20 characters, including Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, Gohan, Piccolo, Frieza, Bulma and Trunks, each with a unique set of fighting techniques. Players can compete solo, in co-op, or in 5v5 matches inspired by the World Martial Arts Tournament from the series. On the Marketplace the add-on holds a 4.1 out of 5 star rating across more than 3,100 reviews, which points to its popularity among anime fans who play Minecraft.

New fighters and the Ki Charge mechanic

The choice of the four new characters isn't random. Bardock is Goku's father and the hero of one of the series' most popular TV specials, Teen Gohan is tied to the Cell arc of classic Dragon Ball Z, and Gotenks and Vegetto are fusions that have long been fan favorites thanks to their spectacular fight animations. With the update, the total number of skins in the add-on has risen to 24, and the mode still supports one to four players on a single map.

Ki Charge changes the pace of duels, since it lets you build up energy deliberately instead of waiting for it to accumulate naturally. In practice, that means more moments where the defender has to decide whether to interrupt the opponent's attack or let them charge their ultimate and risk a stronger hit.

How to play and what it costs in Poland

The add-on works only on Bedrock Edition, so Java Edition players won't find it in their version of the game. You buy it through the built-in Marketplace store after topping up your account with Minecoins, and installation is no different from other maps and game modes covered in our add-ons section. If you're buying paid Marketplace content for the first time, you'll find a step-by-step guide in our guides.

Keep in mind that Minecoins are sold in bundles, so the actual cost in zloty depends on how many coins you need to buy to cover the 1510 Minecoin price. The update arrives a week before Minecraft launches on Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for October 27, 2026, which means owners of Nintendo's new console will get the full, updated add-on right away.

What's next for Marketplace crossovers

Cyclone already has several licensed projects on the Marketplace and regularly returns to its add-ons with further updates instead of leaving them unsupported after launch. The Dragon Ball Z update fits that pattern and shows that Mojang is still betting on big pop culture brands to draw new players to Bedrock Edition, much like the recent Avatar Legends add-on with its bending elements.

The developers didn't reveal in the changelog whether more fighters are planned after the Legends Update, but the sheer scale of this one, four characters, a new tournament mode and a reworked energy mechanic, suggests the add-on is still being treated as an actively developed product rather than a finished project.
