Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 landed in third place on Japan's Famitsu sales chart in its first week of availability, selling 11,754 copies between October 26 and November 1, 2026. The game's launch coincided with a record-breaking week for the Switch 2 console itself, which sold 68,733 units in Japan during the same period.

Third place behind two Switch 2 hits

The Famitsu chart for the week of October 26 to November 1, 2026 shows that the best-selling title was Nintendo Switch Sports Resort with 23,466 copies sold (88,098 total since launch), while second place went to the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy Resonance with 14,462 copies sold. Minecraft, with 11,754 copies sold, was nonetheless the best-selling new release of the week, beating out the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy Resonance, which reached 11,181 players, and Rhythm Heaven Groove on the original Switch, with 8,753 copies. The data comes from Gematsu, which publishes Japan's weekly Famitsu sales figures.

Counting all platforms together, Final Fantasy Resonance sold 34,068 copies in the week analyzed, showing that Japanese players are still buying physical copies across multiple devices in parallel. Even so, Minecraft, as a new release on Nintendo's new hardware, drew the most attention from gaming outlets such as Nintendo Everything.

Launch on October 27 with Vibrant Visuals and the Mario pack

Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 went on sale on October 27, 2026, as confirmed by an official post on Nintendo's blog. The biggest new feature is Vibrant Visuals being enabled by default, described by the developer as the biggest graphical update in the game's history, including improved lighting and shadows among other things. Every edition, from Standard to the Ultimate Collection, also includes an updated Super Mario Mash-up Pack, available exclusively on Nintendo platforms.

Players who own a digital copy of Minecraft on the original Switch can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free, but only until January 31, 2027. Owners of a physical copy on the original Switch need to buy the new version separately, as do players purchasing the game for the first time.

Switch 2 breaks hardware sales records in Japan

Minecraft's launch coincided with a very strong week for the console itself. The Switch 2 sold 68,733 units in Japan, bringing its total to 6,521,352 units sold since launch. By comparison, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition sold 15,988 units in the same week, and the Xbox Series X sold just 616 units.

Although the Switch 2 version is technically the same Bedrock Edition available on other platforms, downloadable among other places via /pobierz/bedrock, the game takes advantage of the console's more powerful hardware to run Vibrant Visuals by default without losing smoothness. That's a different story from earlier reports about Quality and Performance graphics modes on the previous generation of Nintendo hardware, though both stories point to the same goal: better game performance on consoles.

Minecraft on Nintendo consoles: a long sales history

Minecraft arrived on the original Nintendo Switch in 2017 and has been one of the platform's best-selling games ever since, alongside titles like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. The Switch 2 version continues the same Bedrock Edition lineage, compatible with releases on Xbox, phones, and other consoles, meaning players can play together with friends regardless of which platform they're using. In Poland, the game remains available mainly in the Bedrock version on consoles and mobile devices, and a full overview of available editions can be found on the /wersje page.

What's next for sales figures

Famitsu publishes sales data every week, so the next report will show whether Minecraft keeps up its sales pace in its second week of availability, or sees the typical drop-off family games experience after their first weekend. For Mojang and Microsoft, the numbers from Japan are one of the first solid signals of how the new Nintendo console version is performing in a market where the Switch has traditionally dominated software sales.
