Minecraft launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. Nintendo and Mojang Studios have opened pre-orders in three price tiers, and in Poland the physical release is priced at 109.89-119.99 PLN depending on the store. The key news for original Switch owners: the free digital upgrade is only available until the end of January 2027.

Three editions, one release date

Three versions of the game will be available at launch. Standard Edition, for those not eligible for the free upgrade, costs $29.99, Deluxe Collection is priced at $39.99, and the top-tier Ultimate Collection at $49.99. That last bundle includes five add-ons: Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs, Plenty O'Blocks, Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, plus five exclusive Character Creator items and 1,000 Minecoins to spend in the Minecraft Marketplace.

The Nintendo console version is, of course, Bedrock Edition, the same branch of the game that runs on Xbox, mobile and Windows, with full crossplay between those platforms. Polish players know this setup well: they've been moving between PC and console for years without losing their worlds or progress.

Prices in Polish stores

The physical release of Minecraft for Switch 2 is already up for pre-order at Polish retailers. MediaExpert, Allegro and Empik list the game at 109.89 PLN, Avans at 111.69 PLN, and MediaMarkt at 119.99 PLN. Importantly, the physical copy is a so-called Game-Key Card: a cartridge that doesn't hold the full game data, only a key that triggers a download of the content from the internet. If you don't have a stable connection at home, that's worth knowing before you buy.

Free upgrade, but with a deadline

Players who own the digital version of Minecraft on the first Switch can download Standard Edition for Switch 2 for free, but only through the Nintendo eShop and only until the end of January 2027. The offer covers most territories, excluding Japan and Taiwan. If you want Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection right away, you can pay a reduced upgrade price instead of the full price from scratch.

The move is handled by a dedicated Upgrade Pack, which lets you carry saved worlds and progress over from the first-generation console to the new one. Nintendo and Mojang haven't yet confirmed whether a similar upgrade path will be available for owners of physical copies on the original Switch, so those players should keep an eye out for further announcements before launch day.

Vibrant Visuals on by default

The biggest graphical addition is the Vibrant Visuals pack, which will be the default visual mode on Switch 2. In its official announcement, Mojang described it as the way "Nintendo Switch 2 renders the Minecraft world, bringing it to life with Vibrant Visuals." The pack adds reworked lighting, dynamic shadows and reflections on water surfaces, effects that until now were mostly associated with high-end PCs and latest-generation consoles. There is one limitation: Vibrant Visuals won't work in split-screen on a single console or in some Marketplace worlds.

Super Mario Mash-Up returns

The Switch 2 version will also get a refreshed Super Mario Mash-Up pack, exclusive to Nintendo platforms. It unlocks themed skins, music and the chance to visit iconic locations from the Mario series, such as Peach's Castle and Delfino Plaza, now rendered with the new visuals. It's one reason the console version has long appealed to families playing together on one TV, and couch co-op is still a strong point of Bedrock Edition compared to the PC-based Java Edition.

What this means for players in Poland

For Polish players, the main things are the release date and crossplay access to servers and Realms. The Switch 2 version will connect to the same Minecraft servers used by players on mobile, Xbox and Windows, so anyone planning to play with family on console and the rest of their friends on PC shouldn't run into compatibility problems. It's also worth remembering that the full version overview for Bedrock Edition shows how quickly Mojang syncs features across platforms, so Vibrant Visuals will sooner or later reach other console editions too.

There are less than two weeks until launch, and the question of an upgrade path for owners of physical copies is still waiting for an answer from Nintendo and Mojang. More details should appear in the days leading up to October 27.
