Minecraft has landed natively on Nintendo Switch 2: the launch of the dedicated version for Nintendo's new console took place on October 27, 2026, and was officially confirmed by Mojang in an article on minecraft.net. This is the first release built specifically for Switch 2 hardware, with Vibrant Visuals turned on by default and the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack included.

Official confirmation of the launch from Mojang

The studio left no room for speculation: in the article "Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 is coming October 27th," Mojang confirmed the exact launch date along with the full list of editions available for pre-order. The game now runs natively on Switch 2's architecture, meaning faster world loading and terrain generation than on the original Switch, which had struggled with long load times for years.

For Polish players, this is significant news, since the Switch has become one of the more popular platforms in recent years for playing Bedrock Edition on the go or during family sessions. You'll find the full list of available game versions for consoles and PC in our roundup of Minecraft versions.

Three editions and prices in US dollars

Mojang has prepared three digital variants available at launch, differing in their bundled content and number of Minecoins:

  • Standard Edition: $29.99, includes the base game with the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and Vibrant Visuals
  • Deluxe Collection: $39.99, adds three add-ons (Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs, Plenty O'Blocks), three Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins
  • Ultimate Collection: $49.99, expands the pack with Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, five cosmetic items, and 1000 Minecoins

A physical cartridge version is also available, though, as Mojang notes, owners of the original Switch cartridge can't count on a free upgrade and will have to buy a new copy.

Vibrant Visuals enabled by default

The biggest visual change is that Vibrant Visuals, the most extensive graphics update in Minecraft's history, runs on Switch 2 as the default setting rather than an optional add-on. Players get directional lighting, volumetric fog, and dynamic shadows, though Mojang notes the feature isn't available in split-screen play or with certain Marketplace content.

The package also includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, which, unlike previous editions, is exclusive to Nintendo platforms this time. The pack includes 15 music tracks, 40 character skins, and explorable locations styled after Peach's Castle and Delfino Plaza.

Free upgrade with a deadline until January 2027

Owners of a digital copy of Minecraft on the original Switch can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for free, but only for a limited time: the offer runs through the end of January 2027. After that, the upgrade will cost money. Players keep their worlds thanks to cross-save support between both console versions.

For those who don't own the game yet, it's also worth checking out the PC version: download instructions for Minecraft Bedrock Edition can be found in the site's download section.

First reviews: a solid leap forward, but no mouse mode

Nintendo Life gave the Switch 2 version an 8/10 in its review, praising the performance and loading times, which are "significantly faster than its gigantically slow predecessor." The reviewer did point out the lack of mouse mode support for the Joy-Con 2 controllers, even though Switch 2 officially supports that feature, calling it an "odd omission" for such a feature-rich title. The game targets 60 frames per second, though at more demanding graphics settings the frame rate can drop closer to 30 fps.

Despite these caveats, the review emphasizes that this is "a prettier, faster, and all-around more enjoyable version of one of the most enduring games ever made." For the server community, it's also worth noting that the Switch 2 edition remains fully compatible with Bedrock servers, so console players can connect to the same worlds as phone and PC players without any issues.
