Minecraft 26.1 Tiny Takeover officially came out on March 24, 2026 on Java Edition and Bedrock Edition (26.10). It's the first big update of 2026, and its theme is cuteness - Mojang reworked the look and animations of practically every baby mob in the game.
New Baby Mobs - Over 100 Unique Textures
Tiny Takeover is the biggest visual update in Minecraft history. Every baby mob that used to be just a shrunken version of the adult now gets its own model, texture and proportions - rounder bodies, bigger eyes, chubbier faces.
The list of reworked baby mobs covers more than 50 species:
- Farm animals: baby cows (3 biome variants), baby pigs (3 variants), baby chickens (3 variants), baby sheep, baby goats
- Cats: all 9 color variants of cats
- Horses: 30 variants (all color and pattern combinations), baby donkeys, baby mules, baby skeleton horses and zombie horses
- Wolves: all 7 wolf variants
- Aquatic: baby dolphins, baby squids, baby glow squids, baby axolotls (5 colors)
- Jungle and others: baby ocelots, baby pandas (all mood variants), baby foxes (red and snow)
- Nether: baby piglins, baby hoglins, baby striders (normal and shivering), baby zoglins, baby zombified piglins
- Hostile mobs: baby zombies, baby husks, baby drowned (Gurgle), baby zombie villagers
- Other: baby camels, baby armadillos, baby polar bears, baby llamas, baby turtles, baby sniffers, baby bees
Importantly, baby mobs no longer wear saddles, horse armor, carpets or wolf armor - those only show up on adults. On the other hand, the armor worn by baby zombies, husks, drowned, zombie villagers and piglins now has dedicated baby-size textures.
Rabbit - Full Redesign
Rabbits got a complete overhaul of their model, animations and textures. A new idle animation with a head tilt was added - a detail that makes rabbits one of the cutest mobs in the game.
New Baby Mob Sounds
Mojang added unique sounds for several baby mobs:
- Kittens - Royal variant (in addition to the existing Classic)
- Chicks - Picky variant
- Foals - new horse sounds
- Piglets - Mini and Big variants, with eating sounds added
- Puppies - new wolf sounds
Golden Dandelion
A new flower that is a key part of this update:
- Crafting: 1 dandelion + 8 gold nuggets
- Effect: use it on a baby mob to pause its aging - the little animal will never grow up
- Reversible: use it again to resume aging
- Limitations: doesn't work on undead mobs, piglins or villagers
- Other uses: yellow dye, suspicious stew with the Saturation effect, attracts piglins
Craftable Name Tag
Name tags can finally be crafted! The recipe is simple:
- 1 nugget of any kind (gold, iron, copper) + 1 paper
At the same time, name tags were removed from librarian trades and from loot in Woodland Mansions and Ancient Cities. Instead, you can buy them from a wandering trader for 1 emerald (7% chance of the offer).
Trumpet - New Note Block Instrument
Placing a note block on a copper block activates a new instrument: the trumpet. Interestingly, the pitch changes depending on the copper's oxidation level - fresh copper sounds different from fully oxidized copper.
Stonecutter Changes
The stonecutter gained new recipes:
- Deepslate can now be cut directly into cobbled deepslate, polished deepslate, deepslate bricks and deepslate tiles
- Stone can be cut directly into cobblestone and its variants
Villager Trading Changes
A Master-level librarian now offers red and yellow candles (3 emeralds each) instead of name tags. The villager trading system has become fully data-driven - modders and datapack creators can now fully customize villager offers.
New /swing Command
The /swing command was added, letting any entity perform an arm-swinging animation:
/swing [target] [mainhand|offhand]
Technical Changes
Tiny Takeover is also a major technical update:
- New version format: year.drop.hotfix (hence 26.1, not 1.22)
- Block tags: the #dirt tags were reworked into specialized tags (#dirt, #mud, #moss_blocks, #grass_blocks, #substrate_overworld)
- World clocks: a new per-dimension clock system, including an End clock
- Environment attributes: control over block light color, ambient light and the night vision effect
- Java SE 25 required
- Data-driven villager trades: full trade configuration through datapacks
